Something Given Has No Value
Okay, this is the last post on the ISU / Nebraska game from Saturday….I promise. This one wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t from the numerous coworkers comments and outside e-mails I’ve received today telling me that “Nebraska gave the game to Iowa State” or “Iowa State sucks, this is their National Championship”, or any of the other litany of excuses. Think of this as a mini-festivus, because I’m going to get a few things about the game off my chest, and you’re going to read until I’m done!
1. Iowa State was given nothing. Want me to prove it? Watch this video of the eight turnovers and tell me that ISU had nothing to do with them.
2. This game is proof of the existence of KARMA. For years Nebraska would come to Ames and run the score up on the Cyclones. Heck, they did it to everyone in the North, they were that fierce. That was 15 years ago. That stuff comes around to bite you, and these last several years of mediocrity are proof. Deal with it.
3. As a Nebraska Cornhusker fan, do not think your team is entitled to respect or a National Championship every year because of something they did 15 years ago! I’d have said 12, but I didn’t feel like adding the asterisks. If you’re a Michigan fan, you know what I’m talking about.
4. Iowa State is no longer a “guaranteed win”. This isn’t the 80′s or 90′s anymore. Again, deal with it.
5. You got beat by a team that “sucks”. A team that was playing without its conference leading running back or starting quarterback. If Iowa State sucks, then you suck more Nebraska.
6. You got out-coached. A fake punt with a 20 yard gain? Are you kidding? Bo sits awake at night now wishing he had a Special Teams coach ballsy enough to call that play.
7. The loss was not Zac Lee’s fault. The kid has an arm. Give him some receivers that can hold onto a ball and see what he can do.
8. Punching someone in the helmet, while illegal, is awesome. Ask Iowa State’s James Smith. Even though he got kicked out of the game and will have to sit out half of the game against A & M, I bet it felt great. That was a punch in the helmet from the CycloneNation to the HuskerNation.
9. Paul Rhoads is ten times the coach your teams’ coach is. You doubt me? Watch the video from the post-game in the locker room and tell me otherwise.
10. This was not Iowa State’s National Championship game as one person told me. You weren’t ranked Nebraska, and besides, Iowa State beat you with it’s second team. Get over yourself.
GO ‘CLONES!
